Thousands marched in Downtown Beirut on April 24, 2013 to commemorate the 98th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and to demand that the Turkish government acknowledge the event as a genocide.
In 1915, an estimated 1.5 million Armenians were massacred at the hands of Ottoman Turks. Turkey, however, denies the word genocide is an accurate description of the event.
Many Armenian families took refuge in what is now Lebanon after Ottoman attacks on their community. There are an estimated 150,000 Lebanese of Armenian origin in the country.
